Resource Consents

People can use many of our natural and physical resources as of right. However, permission is required for some activities - especially where their uncontrolled use could adversely effect other people, the wider environment or future generations. 

Many activities, for example, discharging contaminants to water are allowed only if they have been given a consent from West Coast Regional Council. Our Consents Section can advise you about the need for a consent and how to apply

What is a Resource Consent...

A resource consent allows a person or organisation to do something which has an effect on the environment (e.g. taking water from a stream or bore, discharging waste into the air, onto land or into water, diverting streams or building bridges or culverts)
