Wrap Up of West Coast Rain Event

The rain event caused a number of rivers to rise, however these did not rise to levels which required the evacuation of people. All the rivers affected by the event have now peaked and are on their way down.

West Coast Rain Event Agencies keeping close eye on Grey and Buller Rivers.

Significant amounts of rain have fallen overnight as the weather system moves through the West Coast region. The system looks to have passed through the Westland and Grey Districts and is currently moving through Buller into Nelson.

Metservice has issued a revised severe weather warning this afternoon. For Westland another 200 to 300 millimetres of rain is expected on top of what has already been received in the ranges, with 60 to 100 millimetres about the coast. Peak intensities of 30 to 40 millimetres per hour are anticipated with possible thunderstorms.
