This enables the Council to sustainably manage activities in the coastal marine area of the region.
Council is proposing to add a rule to the Regional Coastal Plan permitting clearing of blocked river and creek mouths in the coastal marine area, subject to conditions.
A corresponding Method is also proposed to be deleted.
The rule was publicly notified on 10 April 2008, and submissions close on 9 May.

The Regional Coastal Plan for the West Coast identifies issues associated with the use, development and protection of the coastal marine area, and has objectives, policies, rules and other methods of implementation in order to address those issues.
The coastal marine area is the area below the mean high water spring mark out to the 12 nautical mile limit at sea.
Common activities that occur in the West Coast coastal marine area include erosion protection works and stone removal.
