Monitoring site comments
The Swingbridge water level recorder is situated on the Callery River in the mid Waiho catchment, 500m upstream of the township of Franz Josef. The site has a catchment area of 95km2. Water levels are influenced by snow fields in the upper catchment and display daily and seasonal variation due to snow melt. Water levels are displayed in terms of the external staff gauge also located at the swingbridge.
The site is operated by the West Coast Regional Council to provide hazard information to the Franz Josef community.
