The Paparoa water level and rainfall recorder is situated at a tarn on Mt Faraday in the Paparoa Ranges.  The tarn is at the headwaters of Sirdar Creek, a tributary of the Nile River.  The site is located at an altitude of 1250 metres and the tarn has a catchment area of 0.2km2.  The site can record quite dramatic rises in water level in the tarn in response to heavy rain.

 

This site records a mean annual rainfall of 6150mm and daily falls of up to 290mm.

 

This site is a part of the West Coast Regional Council Flood Warning Network.
