Minerals permitting workshops
Minerals permitting workshops
Four Minerals Permitting workshops have now taken place on the West Coast. The workshops, being trialled for six months, are part of the wider ‘One Window’ project which seeks to identify and implement improvement and efficiencies with the regulatory processes associated with mining activities. The workshops also provide access to the various agencies for West Coast miners to discuss regulatory related matters directly.
New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals (NZP&M), the Department of Conservation, West Coast Councils and iwi are all involved in the workshops, which have received positive feedback from many of those who have attended to date.
Peter Haddock, of Mill Creek Mining Ltd, said that the workshops have been valuable.
“The workshops have been a great opportunity to speak with NZP&M staff and other agencies directly. The meetings are easy and staff have been helpful. I would encourage miners to make use of this opportunity, which I hope will continue.”
Minerals West Coast Manager, Peter O’Sullivan, is also encouraging miners who are yet to do so to get along to the workshops.
”This is a chance for the sector to engage directly with NZP&M, and the other agencies” he said. ”If we want to see NZP&M keep their presence on the Coast, miners need to make sure they make the most of this opportunity.”
The next two workshop sessions are on 13-14 June and 18-19 July. The workshops will include the opportunity for individual appointments on the Wednesday, evening presentations/workshops on Wednesday evening, and a ‘no appointment needed’ drop in session on Thursday morning. The evening session on Wednesday 13 June will be a hands on session at Tai Poutini Polytechnic covering navigation of the NZP&M website and online processes. The evening session starts at 7.00pm.
Appointments can be made by contacting the West Coast Regional Council, and registration for the evening session can be made with the West Coast Regional Council or Minerals West Coast.
