Regional Economic Development Plan
In 2014, The region's three Mayors, together with the Regional Council Chairman and the Chairman of Development West Coast, prepared an economic development plan for the region.

This plan aims to grow jobs in the region, increasing population and income, particularly export income. Increasing job numbers is expected to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of our communities on the West Coast.
On Friday 6 December 2013 the West Coast Regional Council hosted all elected members in the region, at an Economic Summit.
The first of it’s kind in the region, the summit was titled “Leadership for Prosperity – Building a Future for our Communities”.
Leaders from the four Councils and DWC spoke, along with regional industry leaders and BERL chief economist Dr Ganesh Nana.
The presentations from the day are attached below - along with selected video clips from some of the presenters.
As a result of the summit, the region’s Mayors and Chairs forum has agreed to focus on greater collaboration and shared services, and have agreed to develop an Economic Development Plan for the region.
