How and when to vote, and results for past local elections
Local elections are held every three years by postal vote. Residents and ratepayers in the West Coast region are eligible to vote for 7 Councillors elected from three constituencies based on area using the First Past the Post (FPP) system.
These constituencies are Grey (three Councillors), Buller (two Councillors), Westland (two Councillors).
The 2022 election was held on 8 October 2022.
The Pre-Election report is a means to inform the regional community and promote public discussion about any financial issues facing the Council. The Preparation and timing of a pre-election report is a mandatory requirement for all councils in New Zealand under the Local Government Act 2022. As is required by law, the Pre-Election Report is prepared by the Council's Chief Executive and not the current elected Council members.
